ALYN O'DONNELL

The traditional fishing community's way of life may be fast disappearing but the traces of the seagoing world left behind are both familiar and romantic, stirring up memories of the sea.  The coastal waters around Scotland provide me with a rich source of subject matter to pait.  The boats, lighthouses, harbours and the associated colours, textures, scents and sounds of these wonderful enviroments are inspirational elements that influences my work.  I rarely paint direct depictions of any particular place.  Instead I am more interested in distilling these influences down using simplified compositions which hopefully capture my response to the coastal landscape experience.
