RHONDA SMITH

"For me as an artist, the beauty, drama and energy of the sea has always been fascinating.  Using material such as sketches and oil studies, gathered mainly from the west coast of Scotland.  I return to the studio and explore the richest of surfaces, textures and colours in my seascapes and beach scenes.  Where the human figure is featured, composition is my main concern.  I like to suggest a moment captured in time.  A sort of 'fly on the wall' approach, where the inhabitants of my paintings are too busy splashing and paddling to be aware of the viewer's presence.  Above all, my desire is to create paintings with atmosphere."
