TOM MABON



BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

Tom was born in Kirkcaldy and graduated from Gray’s School of Art in 1978.  He is currently a Principal Teacher of Art based in Avoch, Ross and Cromarty and is a member of the Scottish Qualifications Authority for Art and Design having served as such since 1995 and as the Convenor since 1998.

His awards include a Hector Memorial Prize, the Latimer Award from Royal Scottish Academy and the Morrison Scottish Portrait Award.

He has had a number of solo exhibitions over the years, all in Scotland, and his most recent was at the Rendezvous Gallery in Aberdeen.  He has also had many group exhibitions the majority of which have been in Scotland.

His work includes urban and rural landscapes and he describes it as being “quiet, peaceful and representative”.  On hearing of his success, he said that he was very surprised but delighted to be a finalist and that he was particularly looking forward to the London exhibition.
