About the Prize

The Aspect Prize is organized in conjunction with the Paisley Art Institute in an annual exhibition. It aims to help talented painters realize their full commercial potential. Principal funding for the prize is provided by Aspect Capital.
Four finalists are selected from the artists who submit works to the Aspect Exhibition at the Paisley Art Gallery and Museum. The finalists each receive £5,000 and will be the principal contributors to the Aspect Prize Winners’ London Exhibition to be held at The Fleming Collection in 2010.
The eventual winner, who is announced at the London exhibition, will receive an additional £10,000 for a total prize of £15,000.
Charles Jamieson, Chairman of The Aspect Prize, says: "I am delighted that we once again have this opportunity to increase the reach and profile of Scottish art. The prize has always offered the opportunity for a London show and the means to prepare for it. However, the generous offer of The Fleming Collection to host the winners’ exhibition in London has added enormously to the scale of that opportunity. I cannot think of a better prize for an emerging artist."
Eligible artists might be working part time as artists; or might be final year students; or might be retiring from full time work to concentrate on painting. The Aspect Prize is open to all Scottish artists or those living and working in Scotland and is an opportunity for any emerging artist to pursue painting as a full time career.
